Interesting way to reinforce learning this famous prayer. An honest-to-goodness prayer chain-easy to make - like an old-fashioned Christmas chain - only smaller. Boys like the chain! Girls may add-on about 5 links (copy a cutout link on plain paper) and make a bracelet by joining the ends of the chain together at the last link. See complete instructions below. VERSIONS KEY: Debts or Trespasses versions Long version: includes "for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen" Short version: ends with "deliver us from evil" Figurative versus literal PRAYER CHAIN: A literal Prayer chain, as we have here, breaks a pray apart into phrases and each phrase is on a separate "link". We reconstruct the chain, link by link, saying each phrase as we add it to the chain. |

Making the prayer chain is just like making a Christmas chain, but smaller and takes a bit of dexterity, so may not be so easy for 1st graders and younger. The maker must pay attention to get them in the proper sequence! The chain pieces are numbered. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bracelet option: add-on about 5 links. Copy a cutout link on plain paper 5 times. Try 5 links first and see if you need more. Fit the bracelet over a clenched fist to get the right size. Do not glue last link to the first link until you have the size right. Make a bracelet by joining the ends of the chain together with the last link.
