God made Thanksgiving Dinner!

1. Identify all 6 things on the page:
- Pumpkin
- Turkey (live)
- Corn growing
- Cooked Turkey
- Pumpkin Pie (pumpkin pie is different than many others pies - it does not have a top crust!)
- Corn on the cob

2. Teacher
1. What at the bottom, goes with the pumpkin?
2. Who has ever had pumpkin pie?
3. Where did the pumpkin pie come from? (Often you will get the answers, "From the grocery store" or "mom (or someone) made it.") (If you get a pumpkin farmer answer, acknowledge it as the pumpkin farmer is a caretaker what God gives us)
Yes, that's what we see, but did you know God created the pumpkins so someone could make the pie? Pumpkin pie is made from pumpkins!
(For older children, ask what kind of pie they like, and what it is made from and who made the original ingredient: Apple pie, God made the Apples)
We thank God for the gift of the pumpkin!

2. Who has ever had a turkey at dinner?
3. Where did the turkey come from?
(If you get same or similar answers as above) Yes, that's what we see, but did you know God created the Turkeys so we would have them to eat.
(If you get a Turkey farmer answer, acknowledge it as the turkey farmer is a caretaker what God gives us)
God created the turkey, and mom (or somebody) prepared it for us to eat.
We thank God for the gift of the turkey and all the other meat he gives us to eat.!

3. Can you see the corn cobs on the growing corn plant?
4. Who has ever had corn on the cob to eat?

(If you get a farmer answer, acknowledge it as the farmer is a caretaker what God gives us)
(optional: Did you know one cob of corn is called an "ear" of corn?)

We thank God for gift of the corn and all the other vegetables He gives us.

5. COLOR THE THANKSGIVING DINNER!

6.God created the turkey, corn and pumpkin. We use these gifts from God and prepare them to eat. On Thanksgiving we are especially thanking God for these and all His wonderful gifts to us. It takes a lot of hard work for someone to make a Thanksgiving dinner. We should thank the person who cooked the dinner too!

7. Wordplay for grade 2 and 3 children: Write this so the class can see it: "God made the living, growing turkey, but mother made the turkey dinner." Ask, who really made the turkey? See the word "made" twice?(Circle the words) Let's replace one of the times "made" is used with the word "created". Let's replace the other time the word "made" is used with the word "prepared"(explain if necessary, it means stuffed, and cooked). What should this say now? Erase the words "Made" and insert the new words. Confirm, "Now that's better! We can see how what God makes is different from what we make."
