Grades: P4 to grade 4

Cutting and gluing are quite easy. Choose pre-colored crowns or crowns to color and cut.

How to become a king:
1. Have God send someone to anoint you with oil as king
or 2. Be the firstborn male heir (oldest son) of a king
or 3. Be the living child or relative of a king (or sole Queen) who chooses you to succeed him. There are other ways to become a king too.

Anointing vs crowning:

The first biblical kings of God's people Israel were dabbed with oil to proclaim they were a king. Crowning as a sole symbol of succession did not come until much later in history. Though the kings did wear crowns as symbols of their office/power.

1Sa 15:1 And Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore hearken to the words of the LORD.

1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Kings in biblical times did wear crowns.

2Sa 12:30 And he took the crown of their king from his head; the weight of it was a talent of gold, and in it was a precious stone; and it was placed on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city, a very great amount.

Sgs 3:11 Go forth, O daughters of Zion, and behold King Solomon, with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, on the day of the gladness of his heart.

Here we have both crowning and anointing:

2Ch 23:11 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they proclaimed him king, and Jehoi'ada and his sons anointed him, and they said, "Long live the king."

(time- about 10 minutes for pre colored version)

1. Choose which crown version you will making.

2. Print on the heaviest paper possible.

3. Choose **OPTIONAL DECORATIVE MATERIALS FOR PLAIN CROWN - shiny, sparkly materials -whatever you may have on hand like sequins, fake jewels, glitter, metallic cardboard to trace crown pieces onto etc. Older grades particularly prefer this method as they can use their imaginations in decorating the crown with personal style!

* If using medium to large rhinestones, you must use heavy paper, medium foam sheets, posterboard or similar heavy duty material to prevent tearing and to hold their weight for the crown base. Cut and trace 3 pieces onto heavier material, then cut.

4. Cut out the 3 main crown pieces.

5. If you chose the PLAIN crown, you can trace onto fancy lightweight board, or decorate with whatever you have on hand. Let the glue set up before continuing.

If you chose the crown with jewels drawn in, you can color the crown and jewels (except the ends where it says not to color)

These crown jewels that are colored for you are green for emeralds, red for ruby and blue for sapphires, but you can color the crown's gems with any colors you like.

If you chose the fully colored crown, go on to step 6.

6. Glue where shown on the star and triangle ends

6. Slip the pieces under the crown front matching star and triangle.

7. Tape on the inside to hold in place until glue sets.

8. (2 person job usually) Fit the crown on the head of the king or queen. Bring the ends to overlap and tape to set the size.

9. Remove from head and either staple at both overlap ends of the paper or glue between the layers. Tape to hold 'til glue dries and/or adds strength.
