Heart Trinity Shamrock

Easy 3-in-1 God shamrock for Father Son and Spirit

Real Shamrock with white bloom

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th.
The color for St. Patrick's Day is green.
In Ireland, Saint Patrick's Day is a holy day and a national holiday, while in the United States, broadly it is a fun holiday enjoyed by many faiths and some faiths consider it a holy day.

In the U.S., it is not a legal holiday - similar to Valentine's Day. In Chicago, for example, there is a great parade in the downtown area AND they put green coloring in the Chicago River!

For catholics, Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland as he was the one who brought Christianity to the Irish. According to legend, Saint Patrick used a shamrock to explain about God. The shamrock, which looks like clover, has three leaflets on each stem. Saint Patrick told the people that the shamrock was like the idea of the Trinity – that in the one God there are three supreme holy beings: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The shamrock was already sacred to a few people of the time in Ireland and it grew in many places there, so Saint Patrick's use of it in explaining the trinity was super to help the people understand.

St. Patrick lived a LONG time ago. He died March 17, 461.

The reason this is made in pieces is so that you can discuss each "piece" and the children have some hand-eye relationship to making 3 pieces into one shamrock.

God loves us so much he came to us as Jesus. The Holy Spirit came to be with us too.

Pre-craft activity: Discuss the 3 parts of our one God. Learn the word Trinity and Triune.

1. If you have chosen the uncolored version, color the three hearts and stem. Put your name on the back of the stem.

2. Cut out all 4 pieces on the solid lines.

3. The circle is at the center of the whole thing. Dab glue on the circle end of the stem. It is easiest to lay over the "Father" leaflet straight up from the stem. Put the circle on the end of the leaflet overlapping the circle end of the stem.

Dab glue on the circle end of the leaflet you added. (It should be on top) Lay over either of the 2 remaining leaflets next to the one already there.
Dab glue on the circle end of the leaflet you added. Put this leaflet on the other side of the "Father"
